‘Gaganave baagi bhuviyanu’ vs. ‘Arike Ninnalum’

The tale of two songs which recently became instant hits is interesting. When two songs become super hits, the public listens to them by choice or by bombardment, even when the songs are not in their mother tongues.

Gaganave baagi, bhuviyanu from Sanju Weds Geetha (Kannada) and Arike Ninnalum Ariyuvaanavumo Sneham from China Town (Malayalam) are the reason for a piquant debate. Now the big debate between Mallus and Kannadigas in Bengaluru is: Which song came first?

Mallus say the Kannada tune is copied from the Malayalam original; the Kannadigas say the opposite. The fact is that Sanju Weds Geetha was released at least a month before China Town.

Both the songs are composed by Jassie Gift. The tune is exactly the same. Only the lyrics are different. Both are romantic but the situations are different. The raaga is exactly the same. The antara and alaap in the first bit is identical for both the songs. The tune is a lovely melody. Jassie Gift should have understood todays youth are very aware and know music deeply. Though the arguments continue, Gaganave Baagi sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Arike Ninnalum sung by K.G. Chitra and M.G. Sreekumar are both lovely songs.

Let us continue the arguments and get the best tunes from talented music directors like Jassie Gift.
