For all those who miss the popular talent search show, Indian Idol, there is good news doing the rounds. It is even better news for those who want to partake in the show. Indian Idol Season Six is preparing to hit the small screen in April on Sony Entertainment Television, just before the fifth IPL season kicks off. In fact, the auditions for the show will begin in February.
The last season of this singing talent show was aired in 2010. The following year the channel replaced it with another singing talent hunt show called the X Factor, with singers Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal along with film-maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali playing celeb-rity judges. Unfortun-ately, X Factor, anchored by singer Aditya Narayan, stopped very short of the kind of response Indian Idol garnered.
Sneha Rajani, Senior Executive Vice-President and Business Head, of SET admitted that the reason X Factor failed was the excessive song and dance. She also hinted at a possible second coming of the Indian Idol. However, while it is confirmed that the show will return, there is no news about the judges’ panel. Sonu, who had presided over the show earlier, quit saying that he did not like the drama in the competition. Rumours are also rife about a possible return of music director Anu Malik, who has been the single most constant factor in all the past seasons. Singer and first Indian Idol, Abhijeet Sawant, is also in the running to host the show.
