New Delhi: Singers Anup Jalota and Ghulam Ali, who are known to be the contemporaries and friends of ‘Ghazal King’ Jagjit Singh have wished for the maestro’s speedy recovery.
Anup Jalota is present at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital with Jagjit Singh’s wife, Chitra Singh and Pakistani legend Ghulam Ali.
“I’ve been sitting outside with Chitra ji and Ghulam Ali saab as no one is allowed to meet him right now. All of us have been praying for his recovery. Doctors have said that there is an improvement in his health but he is still under observation,” the singer said.
“He had high blood pressure which resulted in a blood clot. Sometimes when you have a high BP, it leads to clotting of blood. This led to brain hemorrhage, which is what he was operated upon. After surgery, he is responding and is better than he was in the morning. He is still on (slight) ventilator support. Please pray for him,” the singer said detailing on Jagjit Singh’s surgery yesterday.
Singer Ghulam Ali, who is also at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital urged all his fans to pray for Jagjit Singh’s good health and speedy recovery.
“I just met Chitra Ji and we’re hoping for his speedy recovery. Such an ailment can befall anyone; I pray that my friend of 35 years recovers. He’s a sincere and talented person and a legendary singer. I’ve been praying for him and urge all of you to do the same. The doctors are doing their best. Inshallah, he should recover fast,” he said.
“We have been performing for long now and will keep performing in the time to come, Inshallah. Through my performance last night, I kept thinking and praying for him. I performed since the schedule was fixed. I don’t know what I sang last night as my mind was focused on his health. I urged the audience to pray for his speedy recovery,” he added.
Lyricist Gulzar, who held a press conference in Ahmedabad also spoke about the ailing singer’s health and wished him a speedy recovery.
He said that although the singer’s condition remains critical he has responded to treatment in the morning.
Earlier Jagjit Singh’s Bollywood colleagues like singers Sonu Niigaam and Shreya Ghoshal as well as friends like actors Amitabh Bachchan and Anupam Kher have wished a speedy recovery for the ghazal maestro, who is critical after reportedly undergoing a surgery for brain haemorrhage in Mumbai.
The 70-year-old singer was operated at the Lilavati Hospital Friday, when he was scheduled to sing with Pakistani ghazal king Ghulam Ali at a concert.
