The HiFlyers 2011 Contest launched by Headlinesindia, the popular online news portal, created a viral on Twitter and Facebook with as many as 113086 votes cast by Social Media enthusiasts.

The HiFlyers contest was launched in 2009 and in its third year has gone viral on Twitter and Facebook. With over a hundred thousand votes cast by Twitterers and the Facebook community, HiFlyers 2011 also evoked response from the celebrities like Shashi Tharoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Dhanush, Shreya Ghoshal and Barkha Dutt among others. Gul Panag and Mahesh Bhupathi actively participated in the contest by voting in different categories.
People could vote for their favorite personalities in domains like politics, movies, business, sports, music, direction and authors. Aside from the common categories like Favorite Indian Politician, Best Actor, Best Movie, Best Song and Best Cricketer, there were interesting categories like NextGen Politician, Female Firebrand Politician, Dependable Cricketer, and Addictive song. Most popular categories in the contest were the Best Twitterer and Best Facebooker where people voted among themselves.
The fact that people love online voting was evident from the fact that the tag HiFlyers2011 became very popular on Twitter and got thousands of mentions every day. The most active voter at HiFlyers was acknowledged as well. The involvement of the influencers on the Social Media platforms made this contest a successful event.
