Kangna and Ekta to clash

Actor John Abraham had beaten nine others, including Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Siddhartha Mallya and Saif Ali Khan, to win the title of India’s Sexiest Bachelor. Now, a corollary featuring top women from business, movies, modelling and sports is due to begin, entitled India’s Glam Diva.

The competition will be between 10-12 iconic women from different walks of life. The network, BIG CBS (Reliance), is currently in talks with over 20 of them. Kangna Ranaut, who was recently the face of a bridal fashion week, is on top of the chart, closely followed by Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor.

Ekta KapoorActors Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Sonam Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Vidya Balan and Asin are the other Bollywood names being considered.

Soap-queen-turned-film-producer Ekta Kapoor is on the hitlist too, but in her capacity as a strong businesswoman. Crooners Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi Chauhan, and badminton star Saina Nehwal, are also being pursued to participate. Fashion designers Pria Kataria Puri and Masaba also likely make it to the show’s list of contestants.

According to Nikhil Mirchandani, head of television content business, Reliance, the show was always on the anvil, and was not a sudden decision taken following the success of India’s Sexiest Bachelor.

“Of course, we waited to see how the audience would receive India’s Sexiest Bachelor, but we were always planning to have one with women because we’re confident it will click with viewers,” he says.

Mirchandani explains that the women will be rated on the basis of their mind, body and soul, adding, “Mind focuses on their work, body on their physical appearance and soul on the kind of people they are.”

The show will be on air towards mid-October and will run twice a week, till it concludes mid-January, next year. The network’s considering names like ad man Prahlad Kakkar, photographer Atul Kasbekar and writer Shobhaa De to judge the show.

India’s Next Top Model next year?
Early this year, there was news that BIG CBS network was planning to launch the desi version of the popular show, America’s Next Top Model with a top name from Bollywood that ranged from Katrina Kaif to Kareena Kapoor,  who would replace supermodel Tyra Banks on the show format. However, with India’s Glam Diva on the cards, India’s Next Top Model will have to take a
backseat, for the moment at least. Mirchandani confirms, “We will produce India’s Next Top Model because it’s a format that will help us surge ahead in business. And it’s a format lying with the CBS Network. But it’s not on the cards immediately because we have our plate full with a couple of shows we’re launching now.”
