My name is Ree. Some folks know me as The Pioneer Woman. After years of living in Los Angeles, I made a pit stop in my hometown in Oklahoma on the way to a new, exciting life in Chicago. It was during my stay at home that I met Marlboro Man, a mysterious cowboy with steely blue eyes and a muscular, work-honed body. A strict vegetarian, I fell hard and fast, and before I knew it we were married and living on his ranch in the middle of nowhere, taking care of animals, and managing a brood of four young children. I had no idea how I’d wound up there, but I knew it was exactly where I belonged. Let me sum up this book. The author prattles on and on about her supposedly fairy tale life. This is interspersed with mediocre recipes. So the book goes like this: 1) Look at me! I am Dee! I am so great! 2) Mediocre recipe 3) Look at me some more! 4) Less than mediocre recipe 5) Look at my horse. I have a horse. A person with a horse should be able to cook. 5) Mediocre recipe 6) Look at me! Look at me! 7) Mediocre recipe

I am a cookbook aficionado and my husband got me this one for my birthday.

I’d never heard of the author (I’ve since learned she’s well-known blogger). I suppose some people would enjoy the tale of how she met her husband and the many pics of her kids, spouse, horses (scroungy looking — are they ever wormed?) and ranch life. But we actually live on a farm, and we have cattle and horses, too. So I was less than entranced.

More (and better) recipes and less gush about country living, please. My dear husband (wanna know how I met him? well … ) is sending it back.

Very basic recipes (salsa, guacamole, egg and sausage burritos, etc……..). I just wasn’t that excited by any of the them.
